The proposal “Quad.Ran.Gle” seeks to transform the underdeveloped University of Rijeka campus in Croatia by reimagining it as a dynamic, future-ready academic and cultural hub. Aligned with Rijeka’s designation as the European City of Culture 2020, the initiative emphasizes the integration of art, culture, and emerging technologies. It proposes repositioning the university within a broader European network of “multiversities,” echoing Emmanuel Macron’s vision for interconnected higher-education institutions across the EU. At the core of the proposal is Quad.Ran.Gle, a flexible block system that merges university and community programs to foster interaction and adaptability. By introducing innovation-driven spaces referred to as “Fantastic Zones,” the project aims to blur the boundaries between academia and urban life, reinforcing the idea of “University as City and City as University.”
